There is no telling what kind of emergency will hit Bountiful, but there are a few kinds that are more likely than others. Explore likely disasters below!
Wind and Storms
In Davis County we periodically get very strong wind gusts from the canyons. We also can have powerful thunder and lightning storms. These storms can cause house damage, falling trees, dangerous road conditions, and physical harm from flying debris.
Fires
Bountiful City is located in a desert and during the summer the plant life on the mountain can be very dry. We have experienced a few wildfires on the mountain above Bountiful. We also could have major building fires or fires from other sources. Fires can destroy homes and harm individuals. Smoke alone can cause widespread damage all over Bountiful and impact our air quality.
Floods
Even though Bountiful City is in a desert, floods are still common. These floods can be caused my municipal water lines having problems or by excess snow melt or rainfall. Floods can damage property and cause hazardous road conditions. One foot of water can cause a car to float.
Earthquakes
Bountiful City lies along the Wasatch Front and right on top of the large Wasatch fault line. This fault line runs from above Bountiful down into Salt Lake City. Geological surveys have been recording data that suggests we are overdue for a major earthquake, up to 7.0 magnitude. Earthquakes cause building and infrastructure damage and falling objects can cause significant harm. Earthquakes also often cause other disasters like fires and floods to occur as well.
Snow and Ice
Bountiful City can get a lot of snowfall during the winter months. These snowstorms often come without warning and create hazardous road conditions. Ice can cause falls, especially in elderly and disabled populations. Of additional concern are homes that lack adequate utilities to heat their homes during such storms.
Extreme Heat
Extreme heat can cause serious concerns. Dehydration and heat illnesses can happen to anyone, and often children and the elderly are most vulnerable. Extreme heat warnings should be taken seriously.
Chemical and Industrial
On the other side of I-15, there are many large industrial refineries and factories. There are also many trains around Bountiful. These businesses provide a great service to Bountiful, but accidents can happen. If accidents at such locations were severe enough, they may cause widespread health risk or property damage.
Terrorism
Unfortunately, terrorism is a real threat in this time of our history. Bountiful City lies close to Salt Lake City, the state capital. Terrorist events could harm property and lives.
